\nDeep Tissue Massage (DTM) is a specialised massage technique that employs slow and deep massage strokes to target the muscles and connective tissue that lie beneath the superficial and intermediate layers of tissue. Deep tissue aims to alleviate stress, tension and pain which build up within the soft tissues of the body, thus realigning sub layers of connective tissue, muscle tissue and fascia. \u201cIt requires an understanding of the layers of the body, and the ability to work with the tissue in these layers to relax, lengthen and release holding patterns in the most effective and energy efficient way possible\u201d (Riggs, 2007:3).<\/p>\n
